A WorldWide Photowalk

I can't believe I'm waking up at 5am Saturday morning to take some morning pictures with a photo club I've just joined recently here in Hawaii. And now my first photo tour with them is to do a photowalk around Hilo Bay with an early sunrise start.  But this will not be any morning excursion, its a world wide photo walk and competition with over 30,000 registered participants that will compete in one single day of shooting to submit only one photo for consideration as their best work.

A tough thing to do even with our small gathering of over 30 photographers, taking photos in a small area to come up with a unique image captured and explemplify our own work.
It was very hard to choose my best picture since I did quite a few pictures that day, some good, some deleted very quickly and here are my final choices...please help me decide which ones I should submit including the top photo.

This one is tough for me to decide which to submit, please help me decide with your comments below and thank you for your suggestions.

  1. I like the one best that's right after your request for us to help you decide... rocks in foreground, no direct sun, centered on a tropical tree. Colors are in the palette of Old Master paints.

  2. The first pic should be your choice!

  3. My favorite is also the second one with the rocks in the foreground. It really captures the feel of your area, without being cliche. Very beautiful.

  4. I really like the top 2...and between the two it's hard to decide. I think I am leaning toward the first the the pink hues of light. The tree is the perfect focal point and it is lit so nicely. The palm on the edge add to the beauty as do the boats on the water. Overall, I "think" I would choose the first photo...

I SO wanted to join a photo walk in my area of southern California. There were several to choose from...unfortunately, I had other obligations for yesterday. I did look up the walks and found some of their walking maps which I will just do on my own for fun. I can't submit anything, of course, but I can still enjoy what I missed.

No doubt, you ended with some very gorgeous photos.

  5. All are beautiful but the one that stands out the most is the second one with the soft light and the great composition.

  6. I vote for the last one - I am the minority here.

I like its depth! You are in the dark looking into the light with the trees as the frame and a nature built door way. It has contrast between nature and civilization.

  7. Hi Noel, My choice is the second one...the colours are so beautiful and I love the composition. I was signed up for the walk in our area and completely forgot about it because of other Saturday obligations...maybe next year! Thanks for stopping by my blog and good luck in the photo contest.

  8. I like the second one! It has everything I like in a photo. Colour, light, shadow and reflection. They are all great though!

  9. I like the first two.
The second composition looks really like a painting but the first feels more peaceful.
I would say, the first is gold and the second is silver.
I agree with Carolyn, all your photos are winners.

  11. I love the colors and scenes in the first two photos but for composition I would choose one of the last two - in college photo class we were told to divide the picture in thirds with the horizon either at one third or two thirds of the photo. The two top ones have the horizon exactly half of the photo - which we were told was not best in composition. They are all good - just passing on what I was taught and what I use all the time to frame my pictures. Good luck and let us know if you place!

And good luck for the competition.

  13. I like the 2nd photo. It almost looks like a painting. The same soft green is seen in the foreground rocks, trees on the left and sail boat.

  14. I like the second photo. It has an old-style, hand-painted quality to it.

    Good luck, Noel!

  17. All beautiful, Noel, but I really like the final one. The shape of the tree and leaves makes it different, special. To a gardener anyway. Good luck!!!

  20. I love the dreamy look and the golden hue of the 2nd photo. The reflection, the sailboats and the foreground makes this such a winning photo. Great composition.
